Arrive in the capital of Upper Austria, Linz. Known for its vibrant arts and music scene, Linz blends history with creativity. Mozart composed his Symphony No. 36 here in 1783 – a piece now famously known as the Linz Symphony. For a dose of modern culture, take time to visit the Lentos art museum, set along the Danube River and beautifully lit up in the evenings.

Meals:  Nil

Today’s ride takes you through the scenic Mostviertel region as you make your way to the charming riverside town of Grein. Just before reaching Grein, the Danube valley narrows through the striking landscape of the Strudengau, once known for its tricky river currents. In Grein, a picturesque Baroque village, you’ll find Austria’s oldest theatre, a fascinating Maritime Museum, and a castle overlooking the town.

Meals:  B

Today cycle deeper into the heart of the Danube’s dramatic landscapes. You’ll follow the river through the wild and rugged Strudengau, then on through the historic Nibelungengau, a region steeped in legends and medieval tales. As you continue, the scenery begins to soften into the rolling hills and vine-covered slopes of the Wachau Valley, one of the most beautiful sections of the Danube and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape. Known for its charming villages, ancient fortresses and award-winning wines, the Wachau offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and rich heritage. Overnight in Marbach / Pöchlarn or surrounds.

Meals:  B

Today, you pedal through the renowned Wachau, with its truly romantic scenery of vineyards and quaint villages, enroute to Krems. You will pass several fantastic sights - abbeys, castles, ruins, including the castle above Durnstein where Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned. Alongside the cycle path you will find 'Heurigen', typical Austrian wine taverns, where you can taste local wine and regional foods. On reaching Krems there is time to take a look around before boarding your train to Vienna (included, take your bike with you on the train). The evening is free to discover the sights of Vienna. Be sure to visit the famous Naschmarkt (international foods/goods), a great place to eat or if you have kids or are young at heart, take a ride on the historic ferris wheel on the banks of the Danube.

Meals:  B

The trip concludes in Vienna this morning. Vienna has many great sights to visit including Schönbrunn, Bevedere and Hofburg palaces, the Spanish Riding School and Kunsthistorisches Museum. We can assist with extra nights' accommodation - please ask for our rates.
