After arriving at the barge this afternoon, you’ll have time to settle into your cabin before enjoying a cup of tea or coffee in a relaxed setting. It’s a great opportunity to meet your guide, skipper, crew and fellow travellers. Boarding is possible until 3 PM. That evening, your onboard dinner sets the tone for the journey ahead. Over a relaxed meal, your tour leader will walk you through the next day’s plans and share an overview of the week ahead. You’ll also be given important cycling safety tips and route info to ensure a smooth start. To round out the day, there’s a short warm-up ride to help you get familiar with your bike and the surrounding area. It’s the perfect intro to your journey — scenic, sociable, and stress-free.

Meals:  D

Your first day of cycling begins with a gentle ride through the French countryside to the charming Pont Chevron castle, set beside a tranquil lake and framed by woodland. It's a scenic and peaceful start to your journey, withtime to stop for photos and soak in the atmosphere. By midday, you’ll reach Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses, a village famed for its remarkable 17th-century seven locks – an impressive feat of engineering and a favourite among history lovers. This is a great spot to enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, pedal past the elegant 16th-century Château de Bléneau, and cycle through a region dotted with lakes and quiet forests. The route takes you through Ouzouer-sur-Trézée, a traditional village that offers a glimpse into rural life in the Loiret region, before looping back to Briare, where your barge awaits.

Meals:  B,L,D

Following breakfast on board, your cycle begins with a visit to one of Briare’s standout landmarks – the magnificent canal aqueduct that carries the canal over the wide Loire River. Designed by Eiffel’s company, it’s one of the longest aqueducts in Europe. With a bit of luck and timing, you might see your own barge, the Clair de Lune, gliding gracefully across this elevated waterway — a truly memorable sight. From here, cycle through open farmland to the village of St. Brisson-sur-Loire, home to a striking 13th-century medieval castle perched above the river. This beautifully preserved château offers a glimpse into the region’s feudal past. Continuing on, you’ll pass through Châtillon-sur-Loire and pedal through classic French countryside — think rolling hills, elegant manors tucked behind stone walls, and quiet villages where time seems to slow down. The bike ride towards Sury-près-Léré leads you through typical French countryside with rolling hills, country estates and small villages.

Meals:  B,L,D

Today’s ride takes you through one of France’s most celebrated wine regions — Sancerre, world-renowned for its crisp and elegant white wines, particularly Sauvignon Blanc. Winegrowing here dates back as far as the 6th century, and while Pinot Noir was once the dominant grape, a devastating 19th-century vine disease led to the rise of Sauvignon — a change that has since defined the region’s global reputation. You’ll cycle a picturesque route through rolling vineyards, charming stone villages and gently winding roads. In Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre, nestled just below the vineyards, you’ll have the chance to taste local wines — a moment to pause and appreciate the land’s deep connection to its produce. After your tasting, enjoy a relaxed return ride through the vines, where every turn offers views as rewarding as the wines themselves, before arriving back to the Clair de Lune.

Meals:  B,L,D

After breakfast, hop on your bike for a ride through the gently undulating landscape of the Pouilly-Fumé wine region. You’ll continue on to La Charité-sur-Loire, a beautifully preserved town with Roman origins and a rich medieval past. Crossing the town’s striking 16th-century stone bridge, take a moment to admire the panoramic view of the Notre-Dame Church, a UNESCO-listed Cluniac site that dominates the skyline. The route then winds along peaceful lanes and riverside stretches toward today’s destination, Beffes — a small village rich in heritage, wine, and riverside charm.

Meals:  B,L,D

The ride continues south from Beffes, cycling through woodland corridors, past typical villages and ancient stone walls. The route is scenic with plenty of gentle stretches to enjoy. Your destination mid-ride is the enchanting village of Apremont-sur-Allier, officially recognised as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages of France.” Here, you’ll have the chance to visit the 12th-century Château d’Apremont and stroll through its magnificent floral gardens, inspired by English landscaping traditions and bursting with seasonal colour. Later continue towards the quiet village of Le Guétin, nestled beside the Canal Latéral à la Loire. En route, be sure to pause at the aqueduct over the Allier River. With two towering locks, each around 9 metres (30 feet) high, it’s a spectacular and unexpected highlight of the day — a reminder of the Loire’s importance in France’s river and canal heritage.

Meals:  B,L,D

The cycle ends in the elegant town of Nevers, nestled in the heart of France and rich in character and history. A short, relaxed ride brings you into its centre, where winding medieval streets reveal houses dating back to the 14th–17th centuries, each one with its own story to tell. Nevers’ roots stretch back to Roman times, and since the 5th century it has been the seat of a bishop, giving the town its spiritual and architectural weight. Highlights include the Palais Ducal, a Renaissance-era ducal palace, and several beautifully preserved Romanesque and Gothic churches, including the Cathedral of Saint Cyr and Sainte Julitte. As your journey comes to a close, unwind at one of Nevers’ many open-air cafés or sun-drenched terraces. Raise a glass of local Loire Valley wine, savour the atmosphere, and reflect on the landscapes, villages, and riverside paths that have shaped this unforgettable week on two wheels.

Meals:  B,L,D

After breakfast the trip concludes with disembarkation by 10am.
